Are you registered to vote?
Local Democracy week tries to encourage Swindon to get involved
Are you registered?
This is the main question being asked around Swindon this week as part of 'Local Democracy Week'.
Five special events are being staged across the Borough to encourage the people of Swindon to register to vote, and to get them involved in democracy.
"It's a great way to remind people to get their registration forms back," said Tom Marshall, Electoral Services Officer, Swindon Borough Council. "A lot of people don't realise it's a legal requirement to register. You don't have to vote but if you're not registered you can face a £1,000 fine.
"And there are other benefits as well. It enables people to get credit for mortgages, phone contracts and much more."
