Robins end their 42 year wait to top the Elite League

 

Swindon Robins ended their 42 year wait to top the table heading in to the play-offs.

 

An emphatic team performance saw them overcome the Wolvehampton Wolves to claim the top spot in the Elite League.

Swindon concluded their standard Elite League schedule in fine fashion by registering a 12-point victory.

 

Leigh Adams and Matej Zagar weighed in with familiar double-figure tallies,but it was reserve Morten Risager who provided the match-winning contribution, the popular Dane notching a well-acquired 11-point haul.

It was certainly a memorable night at Blunsdon, as Swindon repelled a strong charge from the visiting side in the middle sector and then launched a well-timed surge of their own on in the closing stages.

 

Swindon's eventual dozen-point margin of victory, and subsequent 3 Elite League points, means Alun Rossiter's team finish the standard league programme in first position for the first time since 1967.

"It was a great team performance, a solid effort by everybody," Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter said.

 
"I'm very pleased with the attitude and determination of all squad. The hard work starts again now though, we must focus on the semi-finals and make sure we win those meetings.

 

It's a superb achievement to finish top of the Elite League standings and now we want to push on."
