Dragon Hill & St. George

Swindon's local connection to England's Patron Saint

First published on 19 April 2012. Updated 14 April 2024.

At this time every year, the nation celebrates St. George's Day - England's Patron Saint. In 2024 it's on Tuesday, 23 April.

In Swindon, we used to make a big patriotic effort in the town centre, plus other events involving much merriment - but alas no more

But what many people may not know, is just how connected Swindon and the local area is to St. George - especially the mythical dragon-slaying on the aptly-named Dragon Hill in Uffington.

SwindonWebTV's Alastair Greener went to investigate.
