Pubs with Roaring Fires
Where to warm your cockles in Swindon
We reckon there are at least some advantages when the temperatures start to plummet (albeit just a few).
The main one being coming in from the cold and warming up next to a roaring, log fire - and, preferably, sipping a hot toddy to go with it!
So here's a list of some of the best places to enjoy just that - pubs in and around Swindon with
real fires.
Who knows, with the price of gas these days, you may even find it cheaper than staying at home!
The Kings Arms
Old Town
Ideal if you're doing some early Christmas shopping in Old Town, the 'snug' at 20 At The Kings offers refuge from the cold with a fantastic real fire in a cosy, sitting area just off the main bar.
The Fox & Hounds
Wroughton
The newly refurbished Fox & Hounds, Wroughton is ideal for a quiet drink, table for two or bigger family meal. And the cosy Fox's Den comes complete with a roaring fire - perfect for the winter months!
The Harrow Inn
Wanborough
Step inside this thatched country pub and you'll be met by what the locals call 'a real fire!' - or two to be precise.
Both are in hearths bigger than most spare bedrooms, with one in the main bar and one in the dining area. Brilliant at Christmas time and for walkers warming up after a stroll down the nearby Ridgeway. Timothy Taylor is also on tap for those who like a pint of Madonna's favourite real ale
The Bee Hive
Town centre
The Bee Hive wouldn't be one of Swindon's most popular pubs without a traditional fire warming up the local clientelle.
Their fire is the perfect accompaniment on a weekday evening for a post-work pint or weekend session. Just mind the icy pavements on Prospect Hill - rather tricky after a few!
The Crown Inn
Stratton St. Margaret
Big red sofas and armchairs just add to the warmth of one of the best pub fires in Swindon.
Almost like someone's front room, we recommend getting there early to take residence.
The Carpenters Arms
South Marston
The perfect place to warm up after a walk in nearby Nightingale Woods or, better still, for a fireside bite to eat.
This pub is dog friendly with a big fire blasting out for maximum cosiness, plus the odd board game handy for whiling away the hours.
The Riverside
Lechlade
Packed in the summer, of course, being by the river Thames, this pub is also mighty popular in winter when the fire is lit. Expect to find the odd four-legged friend stetched out in front of it, while it warms walkers and diners alike in the oak-panelled restaurant room.
