Fairy Charitable

We normally associate Children in Need with bathing in beans, but across Swindon people are taking part in all sorts of weird and wonderful ideas – and with anything from bus marathons to massages, the town is certainly going all out.

So if you see anything a bit out of the ordinary on Friday, whether you're at work, school, or simply out and about in the town, why not show your appreciation with a donation – and remember, every little helps!

Around the town...

Uplands School
Steve Rutter certainly made an impact today when he competed in a bus marathon in preparation for Children in Need.

Following the suggestion of one of the school's pupils, it was decided that Steve would dress as a fairy.

Joined by four of the school's pupils and a teaching assistant, it was a fairy successful day for all involved, with a whopping £500 already in sponsorship money, and much more expected from collection buckets on their journey.

Arval
Car fleet giant Arval, whose offices are based on the Windmill Hill Business Park, is set to be filled with fun and games as staff are invited to take part in raffles and face painting, with some more daring members of staff wearing their pyjamas to work.

One brave member of staff is also taking votes on what outfit she should wear to work, and has promised to wear it all day - including to and from the office, with two bus rides each way! Owing to popular demand, there will also be the unmissable opportunity to throw a custard tart in the face of a manager...for one day only though!

Swindon College
First year Sports Therapy students are offering 25-minute massages for £3, whilst students in Personal Development will be baking and selling cakes all day.

The College's Programme Area Manager for Hair, Beauty and Hospitality, Karen Barber, will also be having her hair dyed in a range of colours, and has already raised over £200 in sponsorship money.

New College
Talented student bands will be performing live in their recording studio, and an all-day broadcast will be going out on the College radio.

With music becoming a bit of a theme for the day, there will also be a karaoke session and dance demonstrations in the College restaurant, as well as the more traditional face painting.

Get involved...

If you've got any plans for Children in Need, we'd love to hear all about it. Send us an email to admin@swindonweb.com with your name, phone number and event details - and you never know, a SwindonWeb yellow mini might pay you a visit!
