We're in the money!
Fitton finally takes control of STFC
After months of turmoil, with the Inland Revenue chasing the £3 million pounds worth of debt hanging over the County Ground, fans can finally let out a sigh of relief as Andrew Fitton moves in. Fitton and his consortium are expected to take full control next week, with the appointment of new manager Maurice Malpas also expected in the next few days. An official statement released this afternoon, read: “Swindon Town Football Club today announces that all conditions have now been met for the acquisition of the Club by Swindon Football Holdings Limited, a company in which Andrew Fitton, Jeremy Wray and Sir Martyn Arbib are directors.” It should come as a great comfort to fans that businessmen of this calibre have shown such an interest in the club, and are willing to invest their own money. Talking of which, there is plenty of it. Sir Martyn Arbib, ranked 208th in The Times Rich List 2007, sold his finance company Perpetual for more than £1 billion in 2000, and is worth an estimated £370 million – some of which is winging its way to the County Ground. A press conference is to be held early next week to confirm the final details of the deal. Mel Turner-Wright |
