some of the happiest & friendliest workers I’ve met) carried on like
clockwork. Bins were emptied. Recycling was sorted and removed. My bin was
emptied of the rubbish from the past two weeks. The rubbish was on its way to
the tip. And the recycling materials headed off on a new journey of
re-creation.
So why am I talking about
the mundane subject of taking your rubbish to the tip? Thoughts about the link
between the process of coaching and rubbish removal were inspired by a tweet
today.
Think about how coaching works
Coaching
involves a process or system for you to work through to change/improve/eliminate
something or things that hold you back in your life or business. Coaching opens
your eyes to the amount of rubbish you are holding on to.
Coaching
paints a clear picture of what you no longer need to hold on to. Whatever the
process you decide to embark on, along the way you will in fact take your
rubbish to the tip.
What makes up your rubbish?
Rubbish
is unwanted. Rubbish is what’s left over or unimportant. Rubbish needs to go to
the tip. Consider what you decide to let go of or how you change your
thoughts/actions when you go through a coaching process.
Perhaps your rubbish
is a limiting belief (definitely top of the list to be sent to the tip!) Or
your rubbish may be to change a behaviour or attitude.
Removal
of these things is a key to help you progress. Wouldn’t you rather move forward
in your life instead of staying stuck with your decaying, fly infested pile of
rubbish?
Think about the process of closure
When
your bin is emptied into the truck, your rubbish is taken away forever. It can
never return. In the same way through coaching, when you change your behaviour
or eliminate a limiting belief, by sending them to the tip, you too will have
closure on your old habit.
You
have let it go. It’s gone. There is definite finality to the process, it cannot
return – but only when you believe and commit to letting it go.
What rubbish are you
