Swindon Fuels UK Economic Recovery
Town ranked 4th for high growth small & medium sized businesses
As the economy continues to recover from recession, a new report has highlighted Swindon as one of the leading places for high growth small and medium sized businesses (SMEs).
The Small Business Outlook 2014, produced by Centres for Cities, ranks only Cambridge, Edinburgh and Brighton ahead of Swindon as the top cities where SMEs are pursuing high-growth strategies and fuelling the nation’s economic recovery.
The report believes supporting city based SMEs is vital to improving economic growth in the long term with a focus on competing on quality rather than price; innovation; investing in training and operating in competitive markets.
Details revealed included small businesses (10-49 employees) in Swindon accounted for 41.5 per cent of jobs created by SMEs between 2010 and 2013 compared to the city average of 27.4 per cent.
