![]() Basic RulesThe work offered by an entrant must include a minimum of two speaking parts on stage and be either:
Each entry must be at least 20 minutes in length but must not exceed 55 minutes in performance. Curtain calls are not permitted. Ten minutes setting time and five minutes striking time is allowed for each production. Companies will incur penalties for not keeping within these allotted times for performance, setting or striking. The Stage Manager (SM) will use a stopwatch to record setup, performance and striking times. The SM's decision on all backstage matters will be final and binding on all companies. The venue will provide basic sound and lighting equipment. A full set of Technical Notes will be provided. The venue's Technical Manager will have the final say in all matters regarding technical, health and safety, and setting issues. All entrants will be subject to the Theatre Act 1968 and entrants are deemed to have full knowledge of the provisions of this Act and the liabilities thereunder concerning the performance of plays which might be considered obscene, seditious, libelous, be likely to incite racial hatred or a breach of the peace. If the entry is copyright, it is the company's responsibility to see that the author's permission is obtained for performance, and that the royalty fee is paid in advance. The licence must be presented to the SM in advance of the performance. If the text has been altered in any way for the performance, proof of the author's permission must be provided. The adjudicator will deliver a public adjudication on each entry appearing at the festival. This will be mindful of a duty to provide constructive criticism, which will help both the company concerned and the audience. The adjudicator will use the following system of marks:
