Sue Doherty
Everyone at HJ1act is delighted to welcome Sue Doherty as our Adjudicator in 2015.
Sue is a member of The Guild of Drama Adjudicators, also known as GoDA.
We caught up with Sue and asked her to tell us a little bit about herself:
"My teaching and involvement with Drama spans four decades. I have adjudicated at local festivals in Merseyside and entered students for local, national and international events.
I was Head of Expressive Arts at St Julies High School, Liverpool from 1999 – 2013, during which time drama results at A level were consistently in the top ten percent in the national table.
Past pupils have gained places at RADA, Guildhall and LIPA, and recently had TV roles in The Mill, Last Tango In Halifax and The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, which has made me very proud!
As Creative Network co-ordinator I played a key role in 2008 when Liverpool was City of Culture. I am passionate about the role of drama in today’s society and recent projects have included work with Merseyside Police, NHS and Shakespeare Primary School productions.
I am an active member of The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Teachers Forum. This has given me the experience of working with leading practitioners and companies, including Kneehigh, Shared Experience and RSC. At present I am working in schools as a consultant.
Adjudicating is such a rewarding role, it is important to recognise and encourage talent and creativity. Those taking part, too have a responsibility."
'Imagining what it is like to be someone other than yourself is at the core of our humanity. It is the essence of compassion, and the beginning of morality' - Ian McEwan."
