And so to Hamlet himself, David Howell, who has one word to say when asked to sum up his adaptation. "Tricky. One of the most intriguing things about the play is how adaptable it is. It could be about so many things; family, betrayal, love, honour, power – take your pick. So it ends up being like an ink blot test for the directors, actors and for the audience! You get out of it what you put into it, reflected in sucha way as to alter what you first thought. It's a theatrical catalyst. |
