The occupying forces are, from left to right; Colonel von Strohm (Brian
Davey), Capitano Alberto Bertorelli (Mark Harris), General von
Schmelling (Julian Varian), Helga Geerhart (Amanda Bodilly) and Lieutenant
Gruber (Adrian Thompson).
Brian Davey says ''Allo, Allo'' has 'a dash of seaside naughtiness
blended with Carry On humour'! He adds that OTTC's main problem is the
'intimate familiarity that the majority of the audience will have with the
TV series'. He's not wrong either, but - with the superb cast we've
assembled and our professional approach to amateur theatre - OTTC's
''Allo, Allo'', is highly likely to recreate our success with 'Life of
Brian' last year!
Mark Harris is a newcomer to OTTC, having come to us from another of
Swindon's quality amateur groups, The Phoenix Players. "What I like about
this play", says Mark, "is that there are very few small parts.
Practically everyone has a party piece which puts them in the spotlight - and
everyone will get a laugh!"
Mark's portrayal of the energetic Italian Captain has had the cast in
pleats of laughter during rehearsals - and he's going to do exactly the
same to our audiences!
Returning to OTTC after a break of quite a few years is Julian Varian.
He sums up the play as 'a farcical romp through 1940's war weary France
- and it's a topic that's a personal favourite of mine!"
Another new face to the company is that of Adrian Thompson, who plays
the effeminate and every hopeful Lt Gruber. "The best thing about the
Germans," he says, "is that they give you a good excuse to dress up in
fetching leather uniforms"
