"Shadowlands" is a special play for OTTC veteran, Wendy Vickery - it's
her directorial debut!
"I'd been threatening to direct for the last couple of years, and had
been looking for the right play to get me going on the directorial path.
When I saw that "Shadowlands" was available for performance I knew it
was right up my street: a play with a challenging text, a manageable
cast and limitless opportunities to explore and develop characters."
"I'm usually on the other side of the fence as an actor and, before we
started rehearsals, I wondered if I'd miss being in the play. But,
because it's my responsibility to guide and inspire all the actors, I'm
really enjoying the satisfaction of watching the whole thing evolve.
Feeling passionately about this play, as I do, it's been a wonderful
challenge to bring the words on the page to life."
But isn't it all about death and tragic love? "Yes", admits Wendy, "but
despite the subject matter, it's not a gloomy play. It's surprisingly
warm, infused with humour
and lightness and moments of delightful irony."
