Shakespeare is given the modern touch
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays - a bloody tale
of ambition, power and manipulation.
The horror and tension almost hung in the air but the sheer ghastliness
of the Scottish play was only momentarily captured.
Directed by Michael Bull, the Old Town Theatre Company (OTTC) gave
the play a modern approach. The production sticks to the original
text, but not costume, as Macbeth and crew don combat trousers and
army boots.
The audience's imagination was free to roam, with a simply but
effective set. This was nicely done as music and sound effects helped
provide the ambience.
Lance Hodges made a magnificent Macbeth, with a gripping battle
with Macduff (Julian Smith) to end the play.
All in all a great production - Macbeth's mental torture made excellent
viewing.
