4x4 Success for OTTC on The Road to Moscow!
Old Town Theatre Company's senior entry in this year's Swindon One Act Play Festival clinched best play, three other awards; and a record breaking fourth win.
The company's Youth entry also won best Youth acting trophy and goes through to the next round of the Junior competition.
The Roads to Moscow, written and directed by OTTC member, Pete
Beard won the Becky Peck Rose Bowl for the winning play on Saturday
(23rd February 2002). This was just one of four awards given to
the play and broke competition records with OTTC taking top honour
in four consecutive years.
Being defending champions, OTTC fielded 'The Roads to Moscow' as
the last play in the annual five day festival at Swindon's Art Centre.
The Roads to Moscow was the second OTTC entry in this year's competition,
the other being a youth entry, 'Unsung' by David Foxton.
Ten different amateur groups fielded fourteen separate entries in this Swindon round of the All England One Act Play Festival.
The Roads to Moscow's full trophy haul:
The June Thompson Memorial Cup for Dramatic Endeavour.
The Peter English Award for Best Direction.
The Evening Advertiser Award for an Original Production.
The Betty Peck Rose Bowl for the group selected to go forward to
the next round.
Accepting the fourth, and winning, award of the night, director and writer, Pete Beard said, "It's been a dream of mine to write this play and to see it performed. I've done that tonight but to accept this award just puts the icing on the cake - thank you."
Pete's play also received nominations in two categories:
Best Actor - Mike Bull and Lance Hodges
Best Supporting Actor - Steve Sprosson and Richard Large
The Roads to Moscow goes through to the Central Division Final
at Taunton's Taachi-Morris Arts Centre on Saturday, 13th April 2002.
