The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Following The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, our next production, in December, will be Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by C G Bond.
This will be the dramatic version, not the musical.
This adaptation of the darkly comic melodrama follows Mrs Lovett's tragic pursuit of love; young Tobias' lost innocence; a corrupt Judge's avaricious lust; two star-crossed lovers caught in the maelstrom; a whole host of penny-dreadful Victorian dregs, and of course, Sweeney Todd's gruesome, bloody and unquenchable quest for revenge.
There are eight parts for men:
- Sweeney Todd - the Demon Barber, 30-50s
- Anthony Hope - a young sea captain, 20-30s
- Beadle - a thuggish policeman, 30-50s+
- Judge Turpin - a corrupt Judge, 30-50s+
- Tobias Ragg - a young boy of about 12 years old; a real 'Artful Dodger' cheeky, cockney chappie
- A Balding Man - a muscular working man, 30s
- Alfredo Pirelli - a flamboyant Italian, 20-50s
- Jonas Fogg - an eccentric asylum keeper, 30-60s+
There are also three parts for women:
