The Vortex

This was Coward's first great success, produced in London and New York in 1924. The play caused a sensation with its references to drug taking and sex. The Daily Mail called it "A dustbin of a play".

The action centres on the Lancaster family - rich, glamorous and sophisticated - their friends and their lovers. They are gathered together for a fun-filled weekend to welcome the prodigal son Nicky but it all goes horribly wrong and the piece climaxes with an amazing emotional confrontation between mother and son.

It's really good meaty stuff for its cast of five women and five men.

The age ranges are from 20ish to 60ish.

There are really strong parts including two terrific roles for young men, apparently in their early 20s.

There are also great parts for three women in their 40s and a really clever girl, who's 20ish.

Auditions are open to all and are at the Arts Centre, in the Studio on:

  • Tuesday 16 December 2008
  • Wednesday 17 December 2008

Auditions on both nights will be from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.

OTTC Life Member, Mike Bull is directing the Vortex. His previous productions for us are testament to his talent and experience. Not only has he directed successful performances such as 'Lion in Winter' by James Goldman, and 'A Lady of Letters' by Alan Bennett, but he also showed off his excellent acting as the lead in another of Bennett's plays, 'The Madness of George III'.

If you're new to OTTC, then please do find and introduce yourself to Mike. You'll be made very welcome!
